Access courses are for adult learners, aged over 19 years to enable them to gain entry into university. The course is structured to enable learners to build up their academic skills, alongside studying subject specific modules, and is assessed through course work. The courses comprises of taught sessions with online support materials available through the college online portal Canvas. For entry onto all Diplomas a minimum of GCSE grade C/4 in English, level 2 equivalencies will be considered on a case by case basis. The Access to HE Health Science professions is made up of 3 pathways: In all pathways you will study the following subjects; Academic Skills – in which you will learn the skills such as academic writing and researching required to succeed in Higher Education and we help with your university applications Anatomy and Physiology – in which you will study the biology of calls and the human body systems Biological concepts – in which you will study biology of genetics, inheritance, diseases and microbes Learners will then pick one of the following 3 pathways to help meet their interests and aspirations Pathway 1 Chemistry – in which you will learn about atoms, reactions and the structure of molecules This pathway attracts students who wish to study biology, biomedical sciences, environment science, pharmacy, dietetics and many other sciences. Pathway 2 Psychology – in which you will learn theories about human behaviour including child and mental health disorders. This pathway attracts students who wish to study nursing, midwifery, sports sciences, psychology and other health based courses Pathway 3 Health Studies – in which you will learn about communication, care principles, obesity, mental health and how the environment impacts health This pathway attracts students who wish to study nursing, midwifery, other health and care based courses. Assessment methods Students are assessed by a variety of methods, these typically include essays, reports, presentations, practical activities and time controlled assignments. Dates and Times Students can expect to be in class 12 hours a week, timetables are dependent on option chosen. Students should also be aware that they will need 12-20 hours outside of class to complete assignment work.
