At Hull College, we provide personalised support for learners with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities in an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

At Hull College, we provide personalised support for learners with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities in an inclusive and supportive learning environment. We believe everybody should be allowed to learn and maximise their potential, regardless of their learning needs, by providing the appropriate facilities, services and resources to help learners be successful in their chosen programme of study.

We have a team of experienced and dedicated staff who deliver specific and bespoke programs and interventions to support the learning and personal development of learners identified as having SEND.

Our courses are delivered in the Maxwell Bird Building - a purpose-built resource centre which houses a first-class facility that allows learners to access a modern, safe, friendly, supportive and secure learning environment, along with adapted and specialist materials/equipment. Our smaller than average class sizes mean that SEND learners are able to access individual support and exceptional pastoral care immediately, away from the hustle and bustle of the college’s main Tower Block.

The focus of our study programmes - suitable for those who may have a range of mild learning difficulties and/or disabilities - is to embed independence and employability skills to enable our learners to secure positive and meaningful progression, be that into independent living or the workplace through vocational study within other specialist areas across the college. We aim to raise the careers aspirations of our learners, to broaden their employment horizons and support them in preparing for the next phase of education or training and beyond.

The SEND & Additional Support Team at Hull College supports all learners to achieve their aspirations. We have a large student population with a wide range of individual needs and learning abilities. Our skilled staff can help, assist and provide support to learners with conditions including…

  • Visual impairments
  • Learning difficulties
  • Dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties

We know that everyone learns differently and everyone requires different levels of support, so our team will work closely with learners, along with parents/carers, to ensure the right support package is put in place to allow learners to progress, develop and achieve. Please note, we only provide support if learners request and want this support.

If you would like to arrange a visit or require any further information or support, please contact our SEND department on 01482 381932 or email SENDsupport@hull-college.ac.uk.
