The Access to HE Diploma Health Science Professions - Paramedic pathway is tailored for individuals passionate about emergency medical care, offering a comprehensive foundation for those aspiring to become paramedics. Through this diploma, learners will acquire essential knowledge and skills necessary for entry into the paramedic profession. It serves as a crucial first step towards a rewarding career in providing lifesaving care and assistance during medical emergencies.

Access courses are for adult learners, aged over 19 years to enable them to gain entry into university. The course is structured to enable learners to build up their academic skills, alongside studying subject specific modules, and is assessed through course work. The courses comprises of taught sessions with online support materials available through the college online portal Canvas

Around one quarter of the qualification is devoted to essential study skills which will help you to prepare for university study, particularly if you have been out of education for a while. The remainder of the qualification is devoted to the study of fundamental scientific principles, with a strong focus on human biology, making it perfect for students wishing to enter careers in paramedic science.

Learners studying this Diploma will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and practical skills through a range of subject areas, including: – Anatomy and Physiology – Emergency Care – Pharmacology – Trauma Management – Patient Assessment – Medical Ethics and Law – Communication and Interpersonal Skills – Ambulance Operations – Professionalism and Professional Development.

The program is tailored to help you develop the essential skills needed to thrive in the academic world and the demanding field of paramedicine. You'll delve into the art of reading, researching, note-taking, and academic writing, with a strong emphasis on using appropriate resources and referencing techniques, like the Harvard system.

The courses are structured to provide a mix of delivery methods, including on-campus sessions at the prestigious University of Hull, led by their experienced tutors from the Paramedics Degree program, as well as online and on-site classes at the Hull College. This flexibility ensures that you'll be fully prepared for the rigors of university-level study and the hands-on demands of a Paramedic's role. With small class sizes and ample opportunities for one-on-one support, you'll receive the personalised attention you need to excel. But that's not all – you'll also have the chance to network with other practicing and aspiring Paramedics, learning from their valuable experiences and building a network of like-minded professionals.
