How to Apply to Hull College

Whether you’re leaving school and want to apply for a course, thinking of trying an apprenticeship, studying for a degree, or an adult looking to learn new skills, applying to Hull College is easy. It’s not one click and you’re done but it’s not far off. In a nutshell:

  1. Find your course.
  2. Click apply.
  3. Complete the short application form.
  4. Sit back and relax while our Admissions Team do their stuff.

We’ll explain all this in more detail and the great thing is you can apply for a course (or courses) well in advance or, if you’re a bit last minute dot com, we can sort you out right through to August or September if you’re applying for an FE course. So, don’t panic if you haven’t made your mind up yet. Unfortunately, degree level students don’t get all that extra time but don’t worry we’ll discuss that too.

Leaving school this year?

Let’s start though by looking at how you can apply to Hull College if you’re leaving school and looking to start a course in September.

The first thing to say is that you don’t need to wait for your exam results before you apply. You can get started right away. If you’re lucky enough to have already decided which course you want to do – happy days. You’re all set. But, if you haven’t made your mind up yet don’t worry. Have a look at all the courses the college has to offer and take your time to choose which one best suits you and your future career.

Top tip: You can apply for more than one course and decide which you want to do later. Click here to view all our courses.

Making your application (16-18s)

I did say it’s easy and it is. On the course page you want to enrol for you’ll see a big ‘Apply Now’ button. Give it a click and you’re on your way. But, before you do you’ll need to have to hand your grades (or predicted grades) for GCSE Maths, English Language, and English Lit. Don’t worry about the application form it won’t take long to complete.

Do make sure you answer all the questions and please make sure you use a valid email address. The email address you tell us about should be the one you use most often and preferably one that sends notifications to your phone. Our Admissions Team will use email to contact you and keep you updated about your application so it’s really important you give us an email address which you check every day. If you don’t hear from us make sure you check your spam folder. Finally, a mobile phone number would be great too so we can contact you directly if necessary.

What happens after you apply

Once you’ve completed your application our Admissions Team leap into action (sort of). They’ll process your application and make sure they have all the information they need. They will then invite you to attend an interview (remember to check your email).

We hold regular interview nights at our Queen’s Gardens campus and you’ll be invited along to one of those. Don’t worry, it’s just an informal chat where you can meet your tutor and find out more about the course you’ve chosen. You can bring along your parent or carer if you wish and you’ll be able to find out everything you need to know about being a student at Hull College.

After your interview you’ll receive another email from the Admissions Team with a conditional offer of a place on the course you’ve chosen. Hopefully you’ll accept the offer and begin the countdown to your new adventure at Hull College.

If you receive the offer but have changed your mind about which course you want to do, don’t panic. It’s not a problem. Just get in touch with us – the details will be on the email you receive from us or you can use our contact form – and we’ll get you sorted out.

Experience Days

We know you’ll be excited about starting your new adventure at college – but there may be a few nerves and doubts as well. What will the college be like? Will I enjoy the classes? What happens at college on a typical day? We understand you’ll have all these questions and more, which is why we’ll invite you into college to experience exactly what it’s like before you begin your course.

We run Experience Days in July every year and it’s a great chance for you find out exactly what college will be like for you. Enjoy a class, see the campus in action, and discover all the great things about Hull College. Remember, once you’ve accepted your place we’ll be in touch with an invite to attend one of our Experience Days – we can’t wait to see you again.

Enrolment

August is a big month for every student – it’s when you receive your GCSE results. Once you have them you can formally enrol on your course. We’ll send you details on what you have to do well before your course starts in September but again it’s a pretty straightforward process.

Firstly, you have to complete another online form – it only takes about 15 minutes. Once we receive it, we’ll send you an invitation to attend an in-person enrolment event at the college. These usually take place during late August and early September. At the event you’ll meet your tutor, receive your timetable, and be presented with your official Hull College student lanyard and identification card.

Remember – it’s important to keep an eye on your email so you know when to come into the college to enrol.
