If you enjoy studying a mixture of physics, chemistry and biology but also have an interest in forensic science, and would like the opportunity to pursue a career in this field, then this BTEC Level 3 Applied Science (with Forensics) is the ideal course for you.
Delivered over
two years, the Level 3 Applied Science (with Forensics) will provide you with
the equivalent of 3 A-levels, giving you a wide range of scientific knowledge
and skills and practical experience needed for Higher Education or employment in
the industry.
During this
two year course you will study a range of specific science units in biology,
environmental science, chemistry and physics through a range of theoretical,
research and practical assessments. The variety of topics covered will allow you
to gain a broad spectrum of knowledge and practical skills, with work structured
to allow you to discover and explore your chosen speciality. Vocational science
courses also require you to explore the application of these topics in industry,
giving you a head start at the end of your studies when you enter the job
market. The introduction of
Forensics into this course also gives extra scope to aim for alternative Higher
Education programmes or different employment pathways.
The BTEC Level
3 Diploma in Applied Science is assessed through a combination of mainly
coursework and some external examinations. This means that you have continual
assessment over the course as well as some experience of external exams, to help
prepare you for university assessments. The continual assessments will introduce
the theoretical concepts you would meet during A-level studies, but allow you to
develop through the more complex tasks, analysing the quality of your practical
work and carrying out independent research to evidence your understanding in
each separate topic area.
The course
will also offer additional qualifications to enhance your employability or
support progression to HE, such as Emergency First Aid at Work and Award in
Higher Level Studies (with 8 additional UCAS points). You will be supported to complete
work experience in the sector, where we have strong links with local employers,
as well as taking part in various enrichment opportunities locally and
nationally.
