The Engineering world is vast and there are a number of different specialisms you can branch out into, from electrical and mechanical through to civil and environmental. With opportunities in domestic households, the industrial sector, commercial properties, renewable energy and many other industries, becoming an electrician could be an excellent choice for you. Our Level 1, 2 and 3 Electrotechnical courses provide the first steps on the road to becoming fully qualified to work in industry, covering domestic, industrial and commercial environments. Through a mixture of practical, hands-on training and theory sessions, you will learn and develop the skills and recognised practices required to succeed as an electrician.

Welding is a fabrication process whereby two or more parts are fused together by means of heat, pressure or both forming a join as the parts cool. It is an exciting trade that is crucial to not just the manufacturing industry but also other fields such as construction, automotive, shipbuilding, transport, aerospace, electronics and most engineering services - the list is endless! Our highly practical courses are delivered in our dedicated Welding workshops, which are located at our Cannon Street campus. Our industry-experienced tutors will give you all the practical and transferable skills you will need to be successful in your future field, whether you are looking to start your own business or find the perfect employer.

Industry Insights

The Manufacturing Sector accounts for 14% of the Humber region’s workforce, employing over 63,000 people. The Engineering Sector, meanwhile, accounts for 2% of the Humber region’s workforce, employing over 7,500 people.

The region is strong in manufacturing linked to healthcare technologies, with large, market leading companies located here including Smith and Nephew, Reckitt and Croda.

There is an annual shortfall of up to 59,000 engineering graduates & technicians to fill core engineering roles nationally.

New industries and technologies are emerging, adding to already significant demand for engineering skills. 203,000 people with Level 3+ engineering skills are needed every year to meet demand.

Currently 40% of manufacturers say 40% of their workforce is above the age of 50, and while they are keen to keep hold of these workers – who often possess specialist skills – there is a growing need to attract the next generation.

ENGLISH AND MATHS

English and maths are important life skills that will help you to succeed in your education, career and everyday life.

If you have not yet achieved your Grade 4 in the new GCSE examinations or a Grade C in the old GCSE examinations, in either English and/or maths, you will continue to study these subjects as part of your study programme to help you work towards this level, supported by our dedicated tutors.
