Uniformed Protective Services, Policing and Sport students welcomed the British Army to the Steve Prescott Centre last week.

The Army boasts over 100 different careers for people looking for a full or part-time job and a team of representatives visited the college to share their experiences with our students who may be considering or wanting further information on a career in the Armed Forces in the future. Students also took on the challenge of climbing a 30ft wall - with Dylan Taylor claiming the honour of the fastest climb in just 21 seconds!

Reflecting on the trip to the college, Sergeant Grant Cook said: “It was great to have the opportunity to come to Hull College and speak to students to explain more about the wide range of careers on offer in the British Army. It’s nice to get the message across that the Army isn’t just made up of infantry soldiers. It really is only a tiny percentage of the Army and it was good to inform them all of that. I can’t praise the students enough as well. They were engaging and asked lots of different and interesting questions, especially on the medical side of things.”

Student Dylan Taylor (Level 3 Uniformed Protective Services student) was keen to hear what the representatives had to say and commented: “I really enjoyed the visit from the Army. It gives us a break from sitting at the desk writing. It was all very informative and interesting. It was good fun and it was really beneficial to interact with and talk to professionals from an industry that some of us in the group want to go into.”

Amelia Ramsey (Level 3 Uniformed Protective Services student) added: “I want to a paramedic, so it was great to have the opportunity to speak to medical reserves staff from the Army. I learnt lots of new stuff and the whole morning was very informative and beneficial to students.”

Everyone at Hull College would like say a big thank you to all British Army staff for devoting their time to educating and inspiring our students. For more information about careers in the British Army, please visit https://apply.army.mod.uk/.
